Ceres Bakery | Penhallow Street

Portsmouth is known for its wide array of delicious restaurants.  To the left is Ristorante Massimo (with a happy couple heading in for a bite) – a place I’ve yet to indulge in, but that is definitely on my list.  Ceres Bakery is easily one of the most colorful buildings in town, and they make some good food too.  Took the opportunity with the evening light to snap a self portrait.

Market Square

Springtime and the travel season brings an influx of tourists and locals during the weekends to Portmsouth’s many restaurants and watering holes.  Market Square is at the heart of it all in the middle of downtown.

Portsmouth Harbor Light

One of my absolute favorite things in the world is the fresh scent of saltwater blowing briskly in the air.  This is a good spot to enjoy it on Great Island Common in New Castle, NH.  With the tide lower you can see the seaweed exposed on the rocks in the foreground.

Vintage Tugboats | Moran Towing

Portsmouth is an old town.  I thought I’d try to capture the timelessness of the waterfront row houses and the Moran Towing tugs that look like they have been (and actually have been) on the City’s waterfront forever (since 1967).  The washed out rainy sky helped create the mood.  Seen in the background is the Martingale Wharf building under construction, The Old Ferry Landing deck, and of course – the Memorial Bridge.

State Street | The Rosa

State Street is a changing place these days.  The City has undertaken infrastructure improvement efforts to the section closest to the Piscataqua River, private investment has purchased and developed (or is in the process of developing) several buildings in the historic portion between Pleasant Street and Prescott Park.  This shot captures the prominent sign for The Rosa Restaurant, a State Street institution for many years now – and also some temporary fencing and brick walkway.  By the end of the summer, the City will have fixed the guts of the street under the pavement and will also replace the walkways with new bricks and implement some period street lighting.  It will be another appreciated improvement to the City and the businesses on State Street.

New York City | Guest City

Traveled this weekend to New York and had the chance to stop by the Hudson River in West New York, New Jersey.  The Empire State Building was sporting red white and blue in honor of all our veterans and fallen soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice serving our country.  The city skyline was gorgeous and a thunderstorm was rolling in, but I couldn’t capture any lightning (sadly).  You’ll have to see this one full size for a better view, here:  FLICKR.
