Today’s post features two of Manhattan’s iconic buildings. Above the Chrysler Building can be seen looming over the streetscape, illuminated by the street lamps and cabs all reflecting off the wet streets thanks to the evening’s flurries. Below, the Empire State Building is wearing its Christmas colors and illuminating the surrounding flurries in contrast to the dark streetscape below.
I rang in the new year with my sweetheart in the New York/New Jersey area. After getting dinner on New Year’s Day in the city with friends, I asked (pleaded) for a quick drive past some landmarks to snap a few shots. Always happy to have the chance to shoot!

I always like the use of low angles. I want to see cities and places from angles I cannot see if I were to just stand there.
I like the portrait orientation shot the best of the two. The detail in the lower foreground does it for me.

Great shots! We live in Portsmouth, but were also ringing in 2010 in New York. We were on west 25th street, which has great views of these buildings (and many others) from the roof.

Thank you Jason…I appreciate the feedback and the comment. It was interesting to play with the 14mm I was renting, which was great for the architectural shots and to capture the actual streetscape setting too.

Thanks Stacey! Hope you guys had a great time in NYC – were you actually on the roof to see the buildings? I’m envious…these were actually taken on New Year’s Day after dinner on the upper west side, we did a quick drive past a few spots I was hoping to shoot. Could always use more time…

We weren’t on the roof at midnight on New Year’s (building rules, though we wish we could have done it). We went up on Saturday night, though. It was bitterly cold and windy up there, but the view is just breathtaking.

Have you ever considered adding more videos to your blog posts to keep the readers more entertained? I mean I just read through the entire article of yours and it was quite good but since I’m more of a visual learner
