There Will Soon Be A Mrs. Daily Portsmouth

I am very happy to announce to everyone that I spent a wonderful day in New York City on Friday with an amazing & lovely woman, Ms. Stephanie Cortes – out on assignment to capture some photos of the city.  I’m even more happy to announce that Ms. Stephanie Cortes will soon be Mrs. Stephanie Cohen….or as I’ve joked, Mrs. Daily Portsmouth!!

When we travel – we tend to do a cute & memorable photo like this in iconic places.  Without getting too far into the story, let’s just say it was a perfect day for a walk around the city to do some shooting…and a wonderful day for a great surprise.  Having grown up in/around NYC, the Brooklyn Bridge was a particularly special place for Steph – and one where we hadn’t done a shot yet.  We had done a test shot, that I pretended not to like and made her come review before suggesting taking another one.  In this photo (the second attempt), she had absolutely no idea what I was doing as her eyes were closed….I had her come back to check out the photo on the camera’s screen when she spotted something out of the ordinary….the rest is history.

Happy Valentine’s Day from New York City

Happy Valentine’s Day from New York City.  Above is a shot of the iconic Brooklyn Bridge…taken from a walk I took around the DUMBO area (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass).  More shots to follow from the walk in coming weeks.

The Lincoln Tunnel & Streets of New York City

To my loyal Portsmouth followers…thanks for visiting today and allowing me to humor you with another guest city post…Portsmouth will return tomorrow!

On the way into New York City on New Year’s Day, we took the Lincoln Tunnel…which was pleasantly quiet thanks to everyone having the day off from work. After we parked near our destination for dinner on the Upper West Side, I had to run and get some cash from an ATM when I saw the newsstand and the characters below, and had to snap a shot.

New York City by Night (and Snow)

Today’s post features two of Manhattan’s iconic buildings. Above the Chrysler Building can be seen looming over the streetscape, illuminated by the street lamps and cabs all reflecting off the wet streets thanks to the evening’s flurries. Below, the Empire State Building is wearing its Christmas colors and illuminating the surrounding flurries in contrast to the dark streetscape below.

I rang in the new year with my sweetheart in the New York/New Jersey area. After getting dinner on New Year’s Day in the city with friends, I asked (pleaded) for a quick drive past some landmarks to snap a few shots. Always happy to have the chance to shoot!

New York City Fireworks | West Side Highway

New York City closed down its West Side Highway for spectators to take in the fireworks shot over the Hudson River in honor of the 400th anniversary of its discovery.  They had 4 or 5 barges shooting fireworks simultaneously up the river…quite a spectacle! There were 10s of thousands of people along the highway (a guesstimate)…and the city did an excellent job keeping it orderly and enjoyable for all.  Will post a gallery to my FLICKR soon.  Tomorrow afternoon’s post will feature fireworks from Portsmouth as taken from South Mill Pond.

July 4th | New York City

In New York City for the weekend and tonight’s fireworks!  Happy birthday America! (And happy 400th birthday to the discovery of the Hudson River!)  We’ll be watching from that little strip of highway at the bottom of the frame…they’re closing it down for the night, should be quite a scene.

New York City | Guest City

Traveled this weekend to New York and had the chance to stop by the Hudson River in West New York, New Jersey.  The Empire State Building was sporting red white and blue in honor of all our veterans and fallen soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice serving our country.  The city skyline was gorgeous and a thunderstorm was rolling in, but I couldn’t capture any lightning (sadly).  You’ll have to see this one full size for a better view, here:  FLICKR.
