USS Carter Hall | Portsmouth Naval Shipyard
At the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, a new guest has arrived and docked for a few days. The 609-foot USS Carter Hall is on the scene to load and transport (inside the boat!) the decommissioned NR-1 submarine from the nuclear shipyard to the State of Washington. The massive boat, as seen above from Prescott Park, is quite an imposing piece of engineering…from afar I thought it was a new building when I couldn’t see the bottom of the ship. I then took a stroll to the waterfront and saw that it was in fact a boat! Below is a shot taken with my iPhone.

Tugboats Under a Full Moon
Portsmouth’s waterfront under a full moon on November 2nd, 2009. The full moon was joined by some clouds, an orange glow on the waterfront, and very cold air (and I wasn’t wearing a proper jacket – so I retreated accordingly).
