In keeping with yesterday’s post, here are a couple fun shots from yesterday’s heavy snow storm. Above you can see the reflection of Market Street and the North Church in the glass of the storefront, along with some folks enjoying a stroll in the storm. Below you can see the moody sky after the snow quieted down for the night, as seen from my 2nd story window.

Winter in Market Square
Today features another winter scene, and the last holiday shot I’ll share of the Christmas tree in Market Square. Sadly, I also had to return the great 14mm lens I rented from BorrowLenses.com … a bummer as I enjoyed the ability to shoot much closer to subjects and pull in objects in the distance.

The Portsmouth Athenaeum

The Portsmouth Athenaeum building located downtown in Market Square is one of my favorite buildings in town, very distinctive with its rising and falling roofline and the cool things on either side of the front door, which I think are from a ship (but I’m not sure of their historical context/significance).
It’s on top of this building that the floodlight shines to illuminate the North Church, and also hosts a webcam for Foster’s Daily Democrat (click here for live shot).

Ri Ra | Portsmouth, NH
For the next few weeks I’m renting a 14mm (very wide angle) lens, so I thought what better place to test it out than in Ri Ra to get a real flavor of the restaurant and its historic dome. For more info, head over to their site and click the “History” tab, or stop by the building constructed in 1803 and read the plaque that the owners put near the front door.
The folks over at Ri Ra were very friendly and welcoming to me setting up shop with my tripod (which can sort of get in the way in a busy restaurant), thanks for being accommodating! Hope you enjoy the shot.

Breaking New Grounds
The Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce’s information kiosk sits just outside of Breaking New Grounds on the brick patio of Market Square. This shot was taken on December 18th, which explains why no tables & chairs remain outside….with the day’s high temperatures clocking in at 23 degrees.
Here’s another shot of the area during warmer times in the late afternoon: Breaking New Grounds | MARKET SQUARE
