Sailboat In New Castle

Once spring and the warmer weather arrives each year, I always feel more drawn to being out on the water.  On a particularly foggy afternoon, I went for a drive around the seacoast to explore some photo opportunities.  As soon as I saw this sailboat at rest along with a few others off the road in New Castle, I had to stop.

New Castle Boats

A calm afternoon in New Castle.  Under colorless skies, two boats sit tied at moorings in the middle of the Piscataqua River. There has been something calming about this photo that keeps me coming back to it.  Hope you enjoy the simplicity!

Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse

One of my favorite vistas in the seacoast features the Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse at Fort Constitution in New Castle.  I probably inherited my love of lighthouses from my dad, and we made our first trek to this beauty many years ago – and I’m always coming back in search of good lighting and to enjoy the view of the ocean. Be sure to take a tour if you ever have the opportunity!

Abstract | New Castle Waterfront

With the clouds clearing out in the afternoon at Fort Constitution at the New Castle waterfront, the light wasn’t ideal for photos, but it revealed a rich blue sky that complimented the tones in the water and also reflected off the water’s surface.  Combining the blue with the soft colors in the clouds made for a beautiful scene, so I wanted to capture the mood in a more abstract way.  I’m liking the abstract series and to when I find another scene that would lend itself to some creative shooting.

In A Fog

Shrouded in fog.  The scene is peaceful and inviting, and features a surprise winged guest at the top left corner. The subtle reflections in the water were an added bonus.

Whaleback Lighthouse at Dusk

Whaleback Lighthouse is one of the seacoast’s icons, standing guard at the mouth of the Piscataqua River in the Atlantic Ocean.  Its stone construction is beautiful and unique – built to withstand the rugged storms that can hit the atlantic.  This cold evening was a bit boring, but with a long exposure the color of the water and the horizon make for a soothing blend.

Fishing at Dusk

This boat heads out into the Atlantic Ocean as evening set in, navigating the Piscataqua river with its massive flood light.  As seen from Great Island Common in New Castle.
