With a nice telephoto lens – it’s amazing what you can capture in a frame from a distance.  This shot was taken from the parking lot at City Hall, and has a few layers, giving a nice perspective to the North Church, the I-95 Bridge, the Custom House, and even the parking lot at Citizens.  An iconic view with a brooding sky makes for interesting viewing.

Light and shadow are at play on the North Church steeple in the late day sunlight.  I was dropping off the rest of my signed prints for Friday’s Art Round Town opening at Kennedy Gallery on Market Street when I looked up to catch the view above.

The Congress Street corridor is a great spot to watch the light change during various points of the day.  During the winter, the late day sunlight streaks across Congress Street, barely reaching the Breaking New Grounds building in Market Square.  In this shot of the mid-afternoon, the North Church and the square enjoy some direct sunlight while the buildings on either side of the street create a claustrophobic view up the hill.

The North End of Portsmouth was once filled with residential homes.  That once upon a time was a long time ago – and in the place of the once bustling neighborhood – a new development has taken shape.  Portwalk Place is well underway, with its first two phases complete.  This sunrise was taken from the rooftop of the Residences at Portwalk building, looking back towards Market Square.  The cloud formation rolling in past the North Church was amazing and a nice treat on an early morning.

I love that Portsmouth spends a lot of time and energy decorating for the holidays.  Wreaths are mounted on all the street lighting, creating appealing tunnels of light at night, and the tree in Market Square is a favorite for many – I know because every time I drive/walk past, there is someone snapping a photo.  Happy Holidays to all!

The North Church Steeple gets a lot of attention.  It’s one of Portsmouth’s tallest structures, easily visible from vistas north, south, east and west.  I’m always on the lookout myself for something interesting – and when grabbing food downtown before heading out for the trip this weekend, I noticed the moon hovering in the far distance just over the steeple’s shoulder.  It’s a beautifully simple scene with some nice elements.  Hope you enjoy!

The fall weather is here. After a few days of seemingly non-stop rain, the sun finally made its way into the sky. A nice orange glow reached above the buildings on lower Congress Street to touch the Popovers building, the North Church, and Breaking New Grounds in the distance. You’ll also notice that the sidewalks are a bit more empty than you’re probably used to seeing them, as people are back to school and probably spending more time inside than out.
