Another installment in my Abstract series. Rather than clouds, the basis of this image was made with water, sunset and tugboats – a combination I most definitely enjoy.

Sunset Over The Tugboats
A dramatic sunset over the Moran Towing tugboats docked at their home in Portsmouth. I love when certain ingredients come together… no matter how many times I might visit a location, I never know what to expect for light, sky, etc. – but I know that the sun sets behind the buildings along Market Street, and I was happy to find a nice combination of late day light and clouds overhead.

Land, Sea & Sky

This image speaks for itself. The layers of the waterfront structures, the rebuilding of the Memorial Bridge, the Piscataqua River and incredible natural light – many wonderful elements. I’m so very thankful for the extra daylight in the afternoon!

The Isles of Shoals Steamship & The Piscataqua
I had an opportunity one afternoon to shoot from the rooftop of the Ale House Inn building. Thankfully, the afternoon was fascinating – as the sun was setting, a storm had cleared and left behind some thick fog making everything to the west glow a soft orange color. Beyond the cloud line and to the north and east the sky had a nice blue hue. As I was packing up my gear to head home, the Thomas Laighton was heading out towards the Isles of Shoals creating some nice movement in the scene.

At Pirate’s Cove in Rye
As the weather forecast calls for more “wintry mix” and March is just around the corner, it’s important to remember that summer will be back here in the seacoast someday. It’s almost hard to imagine with all the snow and salty slush still on the ground that it ever gets warm enough to enjoy a dip in the ocean here in New Hampshire.
Sometimes I have to remind myself that more exciting weather and conditions are on their way, despite my love and appreciation for winter. This shot was taken at sunset in Rye, New Hampshire at Pirate’s Cove beach. No matter what the season, I always love visiting this little slice of oceanfront thanks to its accessibility, beauty, and horizon.

Silhouetted | Piscataqua River Bridge
Sometimes there’s not much you need to do with photography except be prepared when you’re in the right place at the right time. This was taken on the same evening as the last image – featuring tall clouds over Portsmouth’s waterfront. I had been so excited about the changing scene over Bow Street that I nearly missed turning around to enjoy this scene.
