The historic Rockingham building is guarded by some fierce golden lions.  The residential building was once a hotel…burnt down…and was eventually rebuilt by Portsmouth brewer magnate Frank Jones, who is said to have “spared no expense”.  The golden lions are awesome and the building is beautiful….and the steak (& salmon) at The Library Restaurant is delicious.

Check out the Library Restaurant’s website HERE.  It’s the little things I love about eating there on the rare occasions that I do, getting the check in an old book from the bookshelves (which are still populated with hundreds of books)…and the ceilings. The golden lions standing guard at the building’s entrances are worth walking by to check them out.

This beautiful and storied brick mansion on State Street in Portsmouth, NH currently houses residential condos and the tasty and unique Library Restaurant.  You can read more about its history at the restaurant’s website here.  I won’t try to rehash all of it, but I always enjoy re-reading the story.  I will come back another time during sunset when the light isn’t so harsh, but in the meantime, I was feeling that the building should get some recognition here on the site.
