18th Annual Spotlight Awards

I am very surprised and thrilled to report that I have been nominated for Outstanding Photographer in the Visual Arts category of the 2011 Spotlight Awards!  It’s an honor to be nominated alongside such incredible local talent, which includes nominees Carl Austin Hyatt, Bear Kirkpatrick, Doug Prince and of course, Michael Winters – congratulations to all.

Many thanks to the Portsmouth Herald and the jury – looking forward to a fun evening on April 19th at The Music Hall celebrating the seacoast’s rich cultural scene.

Sunset Over Portsmouth's South End

In these late winter days in March, the sun sets in a different place than it would during the other seasons. This meant that when I set out to shoot sunset, I had to explore what angles and spots might be best.  It’s been a while since I spent an evening running around shooting, so I was excited – and ultimately settled on the South End from Peirce Island.  This shot is a perfect example of why it was worth doing some pre-scouting, as the sun set just behind one of my favorite scenes in Portsmouth, complete with powerful and moody clouds overhead along with their reflection in the water.
