Red Light | Buoy & North Church
After an amazing sunset, the fog and the waterfront remained fascinating to watch. The buoy and its intermittent red light were a perfect pop in an otherwise subdued waterfront scene.

Hazy Sunset Over Portsmouth
Thanks to the perfect conditions, the sun appeared as a fiery orange ball over the South End waterfront in Portsmouth. On our way home from a Great Island Common picnic and dessert at The Ice House, we were welcomed back into Portsmouth by this incredible and memorable scene.
The Heritage and The Tugboats
The M/V Heritage and the Moran Towing tugboats sit amidst a thick fog in the Piscataqua River. Another iconic coastal New England scene with fog so thick that the Memorial Bridge can barely be seen in the background.
Tugboats in The Fog
This week’s weather has given us some beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and some intense fog over the river. One afternoon on my way home from work I decided to take a quick detour past the Moran Towing tugboats to see if they were engulfed in any fog. I always love a moody New England type waterfront scene, and for me – this was perfect.
The Spiral Staircase on The Waterfront
The spiral staircase that climbs the building on the waterfront side of Bow Street has long been a favorite of mine. The lighting is usually dramatic at the waterfront, and this bright afternoon was no exception. The tugboats can be seen in the background as well as the waterfront deck of the Martingale Wharf. It’s the little details around town that I always enjoy seeing, in all types of weather and in all types of light.
The Memorial Bridge Amidst the Fog
The curve of Route 1 and the dynamics in temperature along the river left the Memorial Bridge amidst the fog. All in all – I love the mood this creates and thoroughly enjoyed seeing it.
Whaleback at Sunset
While waiting for the arrival of the full moon last month, I enjoyed playing around with some long exposures of the ocean and Whaleback Lighthouse off the coast of New Castle, NH. I love the rich colors from the moisture in the air at sunset along with the smooth glassy surface of the atlantic ocean.
North Church in a Pink Fog.
One of the more memorable sunsets I’ve experienced in some time! The thick fog hung around as the sun set, with the Portsmouth skyline barely visible from Kittery, Maine on the opposite side of the Piscataqua River. The fog was lit an eerie pink hue – creating a scene that I couldn’t have dreamed up.
A summer sunset as seen from the banks of Kittery, Maine overlooking the Piscataqua River. This is another of my favorites from one of the most memorable sunsets of the summer. It also happened to be the night of my third anniversary, which was an extra special gift to enjoy to celebrate the occasion!
Towers and Sky at Sunset.
The Middle Bridge tower abutments stand tall above the Piscataqua River during an amazing fog filled evening as the sun retreats behind the horizon.
