Coastal Sunrise

The early morning sunlight peeks through some clouds, illuminating some freighters on the horizon in Miami Beach. This was the last bit of interestingness happening on the horizon this particular morning…after the sun climbed above the clouds, everything on the waterfront was lit with gorgeous rich sunlight…but the horizon was overly bright, so everything became a bit washed out.  Was thrilled to catch some early rays in warmer weather…looking forward to its return to us here in New Hampshire!

Warm Sunrise | Cold Sunset

The shots aren’t quite polar opposites, but they are coastal opposites.  The shot above was taken on the shore of South Beach in Miami on a warm morning just as first light made its way onto the atlantic coast, probably in the high 60s…and the shot below was taken on the shore of Rye Beach late in the afternoon after a major northeastern snow storm moved past the coast (dropping fresh snow) with temperatures probably in the low teens.  What I’m sure of is the fact that the ocean is mesmerizing regardless of where you’re watching it from, with its sheer immensity laughing off my presence.

The Rockingham & A Sunrise over the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard

The Rockingham on State Street in a mid-winter scene.  Below, the first rays of the morning sun begin to reach over the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard on the horizon as seen from the Joseph Sawtelle Pier in Prescott Park. Experimenting again with crop sizes.

Route 1B | Portsmouth, NH

This shot was taken on Route 1B (Portsmouth Avenue) looking back towards Portsmouth and the Naval Shipyard off to the right.  This narrow roadway leads to and from the island of New Castle, and off to the right (out of frame) sits the Portsmouth Naval Prison.  Taken at dusk, some lasting rays of sunlight can be seen on the horizon with some wispy rain clouds in the distance, with a few cars motoring by.
