At The Corner of Market & Ladd

It’s pretty cool how the contours of so many buildings downtown match their surroundings.  You can see how the building at the corner of Market & Ladd Streets curves around Ladd Street (where the Old Stove Bakery is located).  The row houses on Market Street are similar along with several others I can’t think of at the moment…and you can’t go wrong with so many bricks.  Add in a dose of early evening light and some electricity – and you get a pretty cool scene.

The Green Door on Ladd Street & The Sides of the Steeple

Today’s post features a glimpse of an alleyway on Ladd Street, found next to the UBS office and its neighbor, a brick building (with a white painted face) that appears to house Moe’s (yes, the famous sandwich Moe’s) HQ in Portsmouth.  I love all the bricks nestled in the little alleyway, highlighted by the green door in the distance.

Also, in contrast to the bright morning shot above, here are two very different takes of the North Church from the past week. The first shot was taken during the most snowy part of Tuesday night’s storm, while the second shot was taken on Friday evening – beautiful & simple and complimented by the crescent moon in the night sky.

Federal Cigar | Ladd Street

Over near the city’s parking garage on High Street/Hanover Street you’ll find Ladd Street, which is inhabited by several cool little shops.  Included in these shops are Federal Cigar, which has one of my favorite hanging signs of all of downtown – as well as the Old Stove Bakery (further up the street), which sells delicious cupcakes among other sugary treats. Snapped this shot during an early morning visit downtown and loved the light peeking out from in between the Federal Cigar building and its neighbor.

Sunset in Portsmouth | From the Parking Garage Roofdeck

Sometime when you’re out for a walk around Portsmouth, make a point to walk over to the parking garage on High/Hanover Streets and head towards the roof. The view is from a distinctive locale that provides sights you just can’t catch from the street level. The North Church and the rooflines are featured in today’s post, along with the large building that fills the block between High Street and Ladd Street, with the Federal Cigar visible in the foreground below and DeStefano Architects in the foreground above. You can also catch the entrance to Rudi’s, a delicious destination downtown (and the former home to the Metro restaurant). Just outside the frame in the shot below is the Old Stove Bakery…a tasty addition to the Portsmouth dessert scene…they’ll be featured sometime in the near future.

Ladd Street in the Rain

Ladd Street connects the back of the High/Hanover St. city parking garage with Market Street.  Visible on the left side of the frame is the newly opened Old Stove Bakery, which features delicious cupcakes!  The reflections of the buildings gives a surreal feeling to the street, appearing almost as though a reflective stream divides the buildings rather than pavement.

Body & Soul | Market Street

Brick rowhouse at sunset on Market Street at the Ladd Street intersection.  solari spa is located next door to Body & Soul as pictured here.  I enjoyed the light on the building, and noticed the name of the store on the 1st floor only after the upload…I’m not sure what they sell.
